Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari has urged Governor C.V. Ananda Bose to deploy central forces at Jadavpur University, citing rising tensions after Education Minister Bratya Basu’s visit. He demanded an immediate halt to all political activities on campus, including the dissolution of the student parliament and the closure of offices linked to the CPI(M) and Basu. Adhikari stated, "The Governor should immediately deploy central forces in Jadavpur University as a government order and impose a ban on all activities except teaching, research, and academic-related work."
The situation at Jadavpur University has remained tense, with ongoing protests and administrative disruptions. The acting Vice-Chancellor has reportedly been unable to enter the university due to security concerns. Adhikari has accused the state government of failing to maintain order on campus and warned of prolonged academic disruptions. His demand for central intervention comes amid debates on the role of political organizations in university affairs.
Adhikari’s appeal to the Governor has intensified discussions on governance within the university. While the ruling party has not officially responded to his statements, the demand for central forces has sparked varied reactions among students, faculty, and political leaders. The Governor’s office is yet to announce any decision on the matter.
